Suddenly, my wife post me this question and I need to answer in 3 minutes since I always said that my intelligent is higher than her.

The question sound:
One day, a business man tried to sell a product which the cost is RM180. However, the business man sold it at RM210 to gain RM30 profit. But, the customer gave RM500 for the product. Since the business man lack of small change, he tried to exchange it with his neighbor in order to make the change: RM290 for the customer.

Later, the neighbor found out that the RM500 is a fake one and try to get back the money from the business man. Question: how much money has the business man lost in this deal?

If you have the answer, you can post me comments and I will reply the answer in 2 weeks time :)

Hmm... The answer is not Rm680. Think again? :) Rm680 is too much.

Hint: Try to simplify the amount given in question to smaller amount and try again with actually money and scenario ;)

Huh? That's simple ah, the businessman loss $290 in cash and a $180 product loh.

Because:
1. The neighbour gave him real $500 cash and he compensate the neighbour real $500 cash after that, so the total loss is nothing to do with neighbour.

2. The customer use fake $500 to get the product that cost $180 and $290 of change in return,(we normally exclude the earning, and only count the cost as lost right?) so what the customer get is the total loss of the businessman.i.e. $290 + $180 = $470
Am I right?

The above answer not fully correct:

1. Actual monetary Lost = RM 470 ( RM 290 + 180 as above)

2. Opportunity Cost = RM 30 ( The Businessman loss the CHANCE to sell the product to another customer and earn RM 30)

3. Cost of him getting angry, running around to find the cheater and finally hit by a car and died = Priceless
